ROLE IN NATIONAL NETWORKING ACTIVITIES

ROKE Telkom is a service provider mainly resolving around Internet Service Provision, Voice Call Termination and Carrier Services.
I hold the position of NOC Engineer, which involves
1. Ensuring maximum possible service availability and performance.
2. Provisioning customer network services on core equipment.
3. Ensuring the quality of calls is okay.

My duties and responsibilities relate to the current and future data networking activities in a such a way that they provide me with the concepts that are used with in this industry. Interaction with other technical persons in the same area of expertise to work on beneficial projects such as the Internet Exchange Point, which helps in efficiency and effective of the local usage of the internet.

I mainly use Ubuntu Linux (Desktop platform), however administer a range of servers running on both Windows Server and Linux / Unix Server platforms to manage monitoring tools such as PRTG, Rancid, CACTI, Active Directory and Mail Services.

ROKE Telkom has 3 upstream providers, 2 are actively used while the third is a backup. The main connectivity to all providers is through fibre. 

The country's connectivity to the international Internet is through a single fibre link where all ISPs except VSAT providers connect to the outside world. The main upstream providers such as TEAMS and SEACOM also use the same cable to distribute the connection to the different Internet Service Providers.
